🚫 No-Start Troubleshooting – Simplified Harness Edition

So you installed your simplified harness, added a push-button start and toggle switches, and now it’s doing a whole lotta nothing. No crank. No fuel pump. Just heartbreak. Let’s run through the steps to figure out what’s going on.

🔋 Step 1: Are You Even Getting Power?

  • Red wire = 12V power. Must be hot all the time or key-on, depending on setup.
  • Black wire = solid ground to clean, bare metal.
  • Test both with a multimeter. Don’t assume. Paint isn’t a conductor.

🎚️ Step 2: Flip the Switches (Correctly)

  • Toggle 1: Ignition power
  • Toggle 2: Fuel pump power
  • Push Button: Starter trigger

If none of these are on, your engine is basically on vacation.

💨 Step 3: Is the Fuel Pump Running?

  • Flip the fuel pump toggle. Hear a hum?
  • If not: check 12V at the pump, check the ground, and make sure it’s actually plugged in.

Pro Tip: Touch the pump wire to the battery. If it doesn’t buzz, your pump’s not happy.

⚡ Step 4: Push Button Does Nothing?

  • Check starter wiring and relay. Button must send power to solenoid.
  • Is the engine grounded? Starter grounded? Battery not dead?

Click-click-click? That’s your battery crying.

🧠 Step 5: No Spark? No Fuel? Check ECM Power

  • Ignition toggle must be ON to wake up the ECM.
  • Check for power at coils, injectors, sensors.
  • No power = ECM is asleep or not getting juice.

🤪 Step 6: Check the Dumb Stuff

  • Crank sensor plugged in?
  • Injectors connected?
  • Fuel line on the right port?
  • Ground wire on bare metal, not painted junk?

Yes, these happen. We’ve seen it all.

✅ Final Checklist:

  • Red wire = 12V
  • Black wire = Ground
  • Ignition toggle = ON
  • Fuel pump toggle = ON
  • Push button = cranks engine
  • Spark + Fuel = Party time
